Robert Francis Prevost, an American, has been elected as the new Pope of the Catholic Church. Adopting the name Leo XIV, he has revealed his fervor for tennis, confessing to being a passionate follower of the sport and having played on various occasions. "I consider myself quite an amateur tennis player. Since I left Peru, I have had few opportunities to train, so I am looking forward to getting back on the courts," he shared with laughter.
Born in Chicago, United States, Leo XIV comes from a country with a rich tennis tradition, being the birthplace of renowned figures such as Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Jimmy Connors, and John McEnroe. Despite this heritage, the Pope has spent many years in Peru and, during his first message in Spanish, sent a special greeting to the people of that country. Over the years, Peru has also seen prominent tennis players such as Jaime Yzaga, Pablo Arraya, and Luis Horna.
